Titania - Fairy wing necklace - Blue Lace Agate with woven copper wire and Viking knit chain
Copper wire and Blue Lace Agate

The Fairy Queen or Queen of the Fairies was a figure from folklore who was believed to rule the fairies. Based on Shakespeare's influence, in English-speaking cultures she is often named Titania. I have taken inspiration for this piece from Fairy wings, which gently encase the Blue Lace Agate stone.
The central detail of the necklace is made using thick copper wire to form the frame and capture the shape of the wings. This frame has then been embellished with a delicate vein detail, using thinner copper wire. Around the top of the stone are copper beads of graduating sizes.
The handmade chain is created using double Viking knit, which I have finished with handmade end caps and a handmade clasp, which I have added woven wire and swirls for extra detail.
I have oxidised this piece, giving it an antiqued effect, to really highlight the detail.
The chain is 16' long. The central detail is 2 1/4' wide, from loop to loop and 1 1/2' tall (from the top of the central bead to the point at the bottom). The necklace is 18' long in total.
